ArtReach, the theatrical and dramatic arts outreach division of The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati, is dedicated to bringing high-quality theater productions and workshops directly to schools and selected venues in order to increase student and family exposure to the arts. ArtReach will be touring these productions to tri-state area schools, libraries, community centers, museums and other facilities:

Henny Penny - The Story of Chicken Little
September 16 - November 13, 2009

Based on the original folktale, Henny Penny is a hen enjoying a day gathering acorns. When one hits her on the head she is convinced that the sky is falling. Henny Penny feels it is her duty to tell the king. Along the way she meets some of her friends and asks them to join her on her heroic quest. When almost to the palace, this gang of do-gooders meets the sly Foxy Loxy. The cunning of Foxy Loxy and Henny Penny's can-do attitude make this a delightful adventure with a strong message of self confidence, teamwork, and friendship. Thematic Connections: Literary Classic, Friendship, Folktales, Language, Peer Pressure, Reading. Grades K-4.

Anne Frank
September 16 - November 13, 2009

Anne Frank's diaries have always been among the most moving and eloquent documents of the Holocaust. Join us in the secret annex where Anne and her family hid from the Nazis for two years. This compelling story of adolescents in the face of human tragedy comes to life in this riveting adaptation of a classic piece of literature. Thematic Connections: Literary Classic, Friendship, Family Ties, History, Biography, Multi-Cultural, Self Esteem, Women's Studies. Grades 5-12.

The Fantastic Toy Shoppe
November 30 - December 23, 2009

Experience the hustle and bustle of the holiday season as the owners of a small toy shop struggle to make ends meet and pay their rent. When a mysterious but poor gentleman arrives in search of a special toy the kindness of the toymaker sparks a series of magical events. Songs and fantasy celebrate the holiday spirit and the joy of giving. Thematic Connections: Literary Classic, Friendship, Mythology, Music, Reading, Strength of Character. Grades K-8.

Harriet Tubman and the Train to Freedom
January 25 - May 30, 2010

The year is 1849 when Harriet Tubman escapes to freedom in Philadelphia. Your students will witness something unheard of for the time. Watch as Harriet journeys back into slave country to rescue her family and many others. Traveling by the cover of night and cloaked in extreme secrecy, Harriet never lost a passenger during her trips on the Underground Railroad. When the Civil War breaks out, witness Harriet's bravery again as she joins in service as a nurse. The life of this amazing woman known as "Moses" comes to life in this riveting drama with music. Thematic Connections: Family Ties, History, Biography, Multi-Cultural, Music, Self Esteem, Women's Studies. Grades 4-12.

Hansel and Gretel
January 25 - May 30, 2010

Something mysterious is happening in the woods, and Hansel and Gretel are hot on the trail. This musical romp features a strange old lady in the woods who happens to be part giant, part ogre, part elf and part troll. Could she be a witch, too? Only Hansel and Gretel will find out! Follow our sleuths as they sing, dance, and discover the hidden truth about the dear old lady in that gingerbread cottage! Thematic Connections: Literary Classic, Friendship, Folktales, Language, Survival, Reading. Grades K-5.


Production Information
Our productions are performed by professional actors who travel to schools and theaters throughout the region. Each 45-50 minute production is designed for presentation in national venues as well as school facilities of all kinds. We bring a sound system that is compatible with your system or can stand alone. A question-and-answer period with cast members follows each show.
