New Classes Offered for Spring 2020

First things first, let’s introduce you to our brand new staff members! That’s right, not just the classes are new for the Spring 2020 Session. We have two full-time staff members that recently joined the education team. Learn about these new faces:

Angelo Cerniglia, Education Director

Angelo Cerniglia, Education Director

Angelo is ecstatic to join TCT as the new Education Director. By creating a catalog of robust courses in the fine arts and extending the reach of TCT’s mission throughout the community, he aims to serve as many young artists as possible and provide opportunities to learn and grow through the arts. Angelo is a contributing author in the first musical theatre education textbook, the iTheatrics Method, and piloted several new works with Music Theatre International (MTI) such as Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR., and Xanadu JR. In 2017, Angelo was chosen as one of the recipients of MTI’s The Freddie G Teaching Award. He is most proud of his art inclusion work at Hilton Head Island School for the Creative Arts. Angelo earned his B.F.A. from Shenandoah Conservatory in Theatre for Youth Education and M. Ed. in Integrated Teaching through the Arts and Curriculum Design from Lesley University.

Kristin Orr, TCT Academy Manager

Kristin Orr, TCT Academy Manager

Kristin brings to TCT an extensive background in acting, directing, theatre education and theatre for social change, community dialogue and conflict resolution. She has had the privilege of teaching at a number of fine institutions, having previously served as the Middle School Theatre Director at The Seven Hills School in Cincinnati and the Theatre Director at Watkinson School in Hartford, CT. As a Drama Therapist in New York City, Kristin led devised theatre projects with the New Milford Community Mental Health Clinic, Elders Share the Arts, Voice & Vision Theatre and NYU’s Creative Arts Team. An accomplished performer in her own right, Kristin was commissioned by Cincinnati Opera in 2018 to write and perform her one-woman show, Where’s My Parade? She holds a M.F.A. in Theatre Performance from UC’s College-Conservatory of Music and a M.A. in Drama Therapy from New York University.

Ta-da! 7 brand new classes for ages 2-18 are now open for enrollment for the Spring Session which begins on February 9, 2020:

Let’s Dance, BABY (Ages 2-3)

Pediatric studies show that increasing your child’s flexibility and building healthy muscles are essential for healthy development. Our Parent and Child dance class will strengthen coordination, foster cognitive growth, and provide necessary creative play through music and movement designed to engage parent and child alike.

Pre-K Prep (Ages 3-4) & K-Prep (Ages 4-5)

Ensure your little one is ready for Pre-K and Kindergarten by engaging in purposeful play! Pre-K Prep is intentionally designed to build and enhance your child’s fine motor skills, color recognition, counting, directions, alphabet identification, and tactile skills. These classes will poise your child for academic success – while having fun! Children will demonstrate tremendous growth and parents will be equipped with the tools to take home and reinforce the essential skills for school readiness. Enroll Now

Page to Stage (Ages 6-7)

In this beginning acting class, students will bring literature to life with their teaching artist through a robust, guided drama experience of a popular children’s book! As they move and play, students will begin to understand and apply basic performance skills including collaboration with peers and engagement in meaningful dialogue about character, plot, and imaginary worlds. Music FUNdamentals (Ages 6-7)

This music fundamentals class will introduce beginning students to musical notations, rhythms, and the foundations of singing. Using instruments and FUN interactive learning tutorials, your little music lover will explore and experience engaging musical activities to bring out the mighty maestro inside. Enroll Now

Theatre Games (Ages 6-7 & 8-10)

In this high-energy class, students will participate in and create exercises that stimulate action, relation, spontaneity, and creativity. This game orientated course will incorporate improvisational skills, and basic theatre knowledge to engage every student no matter what level of experience they have with theatre. Enroll Now

Theatre Dance (Ages 8-10, 11-14, 15-18)

Students will explore a variety of dance disciplines that comprise some of Broadway’s biggest shows, learning routines and combinations from current and former Broadway shows like Hamilton, Mean Girls, Once on this Island, West Side Story, Wicked, and more. This foundational class will teach and build upon core disciplines designed to equip students with the skills necessary to perform some of Broadway’s most famous dance numbers. Enroll Now

Improv Lab (Ages 11-14)

Put your theatre games strategies to work in this introduction to improv course. Through improv activities and games, students will strengthen their creative impulses while continuing to incorporate basic theatre knowledge into each class. Disciplines learned in this class will build a stronger core of wit and timing into the performer’s repertoire of skills. Enroll Now
