Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

By The Children's Theatre

Looking for ways to celebrate one of the most notable leaders of the Civil Rights Movement in the US? Some of the best ways include giving back to your community and doing your own learning about the US Civil Rights Movement. Check out these fun and educational tools to help get you started. How will you celebrate? What have you learned?

Watch TCT’s production of Martin’s Dream

One of our most requested and beloved productions over the seasons, Deondra Kamau Means’ portrayal of the important historical figure is both moving and educational. This year, we have several ways to watch! Enjoy the entire production from start to finish on Broadway On Demand or try out our interactive Pick-A-Path option, where the viewer gets to make choices about what they see throughout the story. Just a note: there is some historically accurate language that may be considered inappropriate for younger viewers. For those ages 7 and younger, consider choosing the option “For Younger Audiences” when purchasing digital passes.

Check out some of TCT’s Podcasts

Over the last few years, TCT has produced several shows about important historical figures and events in the US Civil Rights Movement, including Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, and Coretta Scott King. While those shows are not available digitally right now, the podcasts about those shows are! Give these 5–10-minute podcasts a listen throughout the weekend and beyond.

Do some “homework” with our Study Guides

Along with podcasts about each show, TCT provides digital and PDF study guides appropriate for all ages! They’re great for doing some solitary research and reflection as well as for facilitating family and group discussions.

We hope these resources help inspire your journey to continue the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the work of the US Civil Rights & Black Lives Matter movements today and in the future!
