What is Juneteenth?

The holiday Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19 every year and commemorates the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Texas to ensure that all enslaved people were freed and the American Civil War officially ended. The holiday should be celebrated as the day when all Americans were liberated from slavery, and traditional celebrations usually include a mix of storytelling, music, food, parades, and celebrations of black culture.
