101 Stories: Avani Modi

By The Children's Theatre

Celebrate TCT’s 101st season as it comes to a close as we applaud and appreciate those who contributed to the organization’s magic throughout our century-long journey.  During 10 weeks of recognition, we honor individuals who have been instrumental in the success of TCT, and who have not only helped TCT grow in mission, but also thrive, thanks to their passion.  It is these people and their moments in our history that shaped TCT to become what it is today. We encourage you to consider giving a gift in their honor to ensure the sustainability of TCT’s mission for the next 100+ years.

Avani Modi, PhD, (top left) is a professor in the Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology and director of the Center for Adherence and Self-Management at Cincinnati Children’s within the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Modi is a TCT Board Member and led the company’s COVID Ad-Hoc Committee throughout the pandemic, assisting with the creation and implementation of the company’s COVID safety protocols.

Dr. Modi says: “I was first introduced to The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati when my friend invited me and my daughter to come and see Snow White and the Dancing Dwarfs. At first, I remember being very worried about my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter’s ability to sit for the entire show. We decided to go, and make it a moms and kids date night – with dinner and a show. At the theatre, I was fascinated by how both of our kids sat completely still and were entranced by live theatre. After that show, we decided to buy season tickets, and have been attending shows for the past five years. My daughter loves it – in fact, she has a preference for seeing live theatre over watching movies. I love how the Children’s Theatre can make live theatre an option for every kid to experience. “

She continues: “I now serve on the Children’s Theatre’s board of directors. I find that being a board member is very rewarding because I have a voice and get to give input into the direction that the theatre will go. I have been leading the COVID team for TCT, and have played a major role in finding the safest ways for children to experience our camps and shows. I am proud to be a part of this board and a patron of The Children’s Theatre.”
