101 Stories: Mary Bunker

By The Children's Theatre

Celebrate TCT’s 101st season as it comes to a close as we applaud and appreciate those who contributed to the organization’s magic throughout our century-long journey.  During 10 weeks of recognition, we honor individuals who have been instrumental in the success of TCT, and who have not only helped TCT grow in mission, but also thrive, thanks to their passion.  It is these people and their moments in our history that shaped TCT to become what it is today. We encourage you to consider giving a gift in their honor to ensure the sustainability of TCT’s mission for the next 100+ years.

Before the pandemic, during a typical season at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, nearly 40,000 school children typically attend TCT’s daytime field trip performances at the Taft Theatre.

To make these school performances safe and secure for all, The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati relies on staff, and in particular, volunteers. These volunteers are recruited and coordinated by an exceptional team of TCT Day Chairs.

One long-time TCT Day Chair is Mary Bunker.

We chatted with Mary, and she shared her thoughts about volunteering with TCT:

“I have told so many people about that great production of A Charlie Brown Christmas in 2019. What I loved the most was sitting behind a young (K or 1st grade) little girl. She was on the edge of her seat! I do believe that was the most magical moment of that year’s Christmas for her and others. Roderick Justice, and all at TCT, gave a great gift to so many children of the Tri-state area. When people ask me what my favorite volunteer job is, I say TCT – which is at the top of my list.”

Would you honor Mary Bunker with a gift to recognize the impact made on TCT?
