It is these people and their moments in our history that shaped TCT to become what it is today. After years as a tenant in obscure buildings and locations, The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati needed to find a permanent home with a building they could own and one that would accommodate the programing and growth needs of the organization. Terrex Development & Construction helped The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati find, design, build and expand its current Red Bank Road headquarters, a destination for theater education and expansion of its reach into the community.
TCT outgrew its space on Oaklawn Drive, where it hosted children’s and community activities for more than five years. Seeking to expand, TCT’s Board of Trustees recommended purchasing a building at 4015 Red Bank Road in Hyde Park from the G&G Manufacturing Company. After a lengthy analysis, the building was purchased in December 2014. Terrex began construction (a complex renovation and expansion) in June of 2015, and the space officially opened to the public in June of 2016.
TCT’s Red Bank facility offers more space for drama, vocal music, and dance-specific studios for the ever-growing TCT Academy performing arts classes. A small 150-seat performance space, along with a costume shop and expanded rehearsal space for both MainStage productions as well as TCT On Tour shows. The company’s administrative offices are also housed there. The facility has become a measurable draw for visitors and students from the entire region, bringing more people to the area and more patrons to local businesses. TCT would literally not be where it is today without Terrex Development & Construction.

Recently, we met with one of the Terrex founders, Peter Horton, to hear about the impact The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati has provided both personally and professionally in his life.
In 2007, Pete Horton was invited to join the TCT Board. “My field is in real estate development and construction. TCT had been forced to move a few times since I first joined the Board. After seeing the shortfalls of their previous buildings and knowing where the TCT was growing, I worked really hard with TCT to help them find, design, and build a new facility where TCT would be able to reach its full potential.”
“I have two sons who grew up attending performances by The Children’s Theatre. The theatre provides amazing exposure to the many things that life has to offer. It is both entertaining and educational for children. One of my sons became very intrigued by how the shows all came together – with the lighting, the sound, the sets. We were able to take him to the TCT scene shop and show him the process of all of these things! Now, both of my kids have a great appreciation for the arts as high school and college students.“
As a TCT Board Member, Peter joins the volunteer team to help usher for MainStage shows held at The Taft Theatre. “There is not a better way to understand what TCT does than volunteering to usher for a school show. You can visibly see the impact the theatre has, and experience first-hand the power of theatre. The level of commitment and passion within the staff is hard to find anywhere else. TCT has talented and great people – both Board and staff. It is an assembly of all-stars who are passionate about TCT’s mission and their role within it.”
